Almost every HDB repaint quote looks the same on the surface. The differences that matter are in the preparation, and they are the ones least often written down.
What a proper package includes
- Furniture wrapping and floor masking throughout the unit
- Crack, hole and nail-mark patching
- Sealer and primer appropriate to the wall condition
- Two full coats of premium paint
- Common areas and toilet ceilings
- Full site clean and debris removal
What it costs
Whole-unit packages start around $315 for a basic single-colour system and rise with flat size and paint grade. A 4-room flat in a mid-range washable system typically lands under $1,000. Anything dramatically cheaper is usually skipping preparation.
How long it takes
Most flats are done in 48 hours. Larger units, or walls needing significant patching, run to three days.
Choosing the paint
Water-based latex systems are the right default for interior HDB walls: low odour, fast drying and safe around children and pets. Add anti-mould formulations for kitchens, bathrooms and any wall that shares a boundary with a wet area.
The questions worth asking a contractor
How many coats? What primer, and why that one? Who does the work — your own crew or subcontractors? What happens if I find a defect a month later? Written answers to those four separate the reliable quotes from the rest.
